- Blaine: Love you too feel better :)
- Santana: Thank you. Give Kurt and Paul a hug and a kiss for me :)
- Blaine: Will do!
Kurt raised an eyebrow at Blaine. ”So, um, does this mean he might actually take if we tried? I mean, does it sound insane that I’m so eager for him to be able to eat without some damned feeding tube? I mean it’s like milestones. Paul stared at the Nurse for a bit, reaching for her face in curiosity. ”Paul, you are far too curious for your own good!” Kurt admonished with a chuckle, staring adoringly at first his sweet baby boy, then at his dear sweet husband. ”I love you - both of you,” he murmured.
As he watched Paul reach out for the nurse Blaine quickly removed his shirt, and sat back with a smile as Paul was placed in his arms. “Hey nugget, I can’t wait to see your whole face without all the tubes and stuff,” Blaine whispered as he gently stroked Paul’s face and back with a single finger. ”I love you baby boy and daddy too,” he whispered before beginning to sing.
Kurt beamed gesturing Blaine to come closer to hold him. ”Here, you get a turn. You know me, I can hog him up all night if need be.” His eyes lit up at the thought of the darling little preemie clothes. ”Oh Gaga yes!” he exclaimed, blushing as that outburst was perhaps a bit on the loud side. He lowered his tone into a more modest tone. ”Aww Blaine, he’s grabbing for your finger!”
Blaine couldn’t help but grin when Paul’s tiny hands grasped his finger, “now this is so cool. He knows I’m daddy already,” Blaine sighed. About that moment the doctor finally came over and gave them updates on Paul’s breathing and eating. They were really encouraged at him trying to nurse so they wanted to go ahead and remove CPAP that evening for a test on regular nasal cannula. Blaine couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear. Things were looking up!
Kurt blinked. ”The doctor is due to be in at any point now.” He scanned around and shrugged. ”But yes, I’d love to see little Paulie off the CPAP. That’d be one step closer to home!” He smiled fondly at Paul and cradled him in his arms. ”I can’t wait to take you home, and show you the nursery that Daddy and I put together just for you!”
“I know that took a lot of time. I forgot to tell you that box on the floor in our bedroom is full of preemie clothes from Carole. As soon as he is off CPAP he can wear some of them. Well i think he has to be able to regulate his temperature on his own without the isolette also, but we just have to see,” Blaine smiled as he looked down at Paul, “Hey little man how are you?”
Kurt smiled, looking up from Paul to gaze adoringly at his dear, sweet husband. ”I can get one later, yeah. As for Paul, he’s tried. I wonder how long until he gets it right.” He giggled as Paul gave him a random look, sticking his tongue out. ”He’s just being silly, you’re just a silly silly boy,” he cooed, nuzzling his nose ever so gently against his son’s cheek.
Blaine brushed his hand gently against Paul’s cheek, “he is doing so much better and is really alert. I wonder when they are going to take him off the Darth Vader set up. I actually would like to be able to pick him up without help. Did the PA or doctor come by?”
Kurt settled into the NICU room, right by Paul’s isolette. With the assistance of the nurse, they placed him in Kurt’s arms after he removed his shirt and covered his chest with a warm blanket. Paul nuzzled into his chest and Kurt smiled softly. “You really like to nuzzle don’t you little guy?” Paul blinked at him with those big blue eyes of his. “Ohhh hey, blue eyes. They are my eyes, you know. Those are special eyes. I got mine from your Nana Emily. When you were still cooking in my faulty oven, I told you the story about her.” Kurt laughed as Paul reached for his nose.
“You’re a silly guy, like your other Daddy.”
Blaine had just finished raiding the snack counter at the nurses station, and smiled when he saw Kurt with Paul. He walked over and sat down next to both his boys, “Hey they have some amazing pumpkin walnut muffins at the nurses station if you want me to get you one. Has he tried to nurse yet today?”
